A TOUGH DECISION FOR AWUJALE!
In Ijebu Chieftaincy affairs, Awujale statutorily holds the Supreme authority, and his words determine how tall a tree can grow and how far the winds can blow. But at this juncture, the Paramount ruler seems to be at cross road on the decision to install the next Ogbeni-Oja of Ijebuland.
Traditionally, at the vacant of Awujale Stool, Ogbeni-Oja, a member of Ijebu Ode Ilamuren becomes the REGENT, just like Basorun, a member of Oyomesi becomes Regent in Oyo.
Meanwhile, the Ogbeni Oja seat has been vacant since 2015, and there have been more speculations as to who the next Ijebuland second-in-command will be.
However, the gist about the tough decision is attributed to the top contenders who are all so dear to Awujale’s heart.
These contenders includes:
Dr. Mike Ishola Agbolade Adenuga (GCON), Globacom boss and billionaire, who is also a member of the Awujale’s council of Otunbas and his royal court. In addition, Adenuga is a first cousin of the Ijebu king, is the Otunba Apesin of Ijebuland, and his company is known to sponsor the most prestigious Ijebu festival, the Ojude Oba.
Chief Sulaiman Adebola Adegunwa OFR (aka Fototek), all-round boss and former chairman of Sterling Bank Plc, who is also a close friend of the Awujale.
Obafunke Otudeko, the founder and chairman of the Honeywell Group who is also dear to Awujale’s heart.
These illustrious Ijebu Sons have the spotlight set on them.
